What does a MCT do?

Microsoft Certified Trainers, are the only professionals authorized to deliver Microsoft’s Official Courseware.

What does a MCT do?. Professionals seeking to validate their skills as Microsoft technical experts, seek training from a number of providers. MCT’s certified trainers are experts in Microsoft technologies. Fourth Dimension Technologies, Inc. is a provider of Microsoft Instructional Skills (MCT) Certification.

There are 2 primary requirements to become a Microsoft Certified Trainer.

  1. You must hold a Microsoft qualifying certification.
  2. You must demonstrate instructional skills as verified by a approved provider of Microsoft Instructional Skills (MCT) such as Fourth Dimension Technologies, Inc.

It is important to understand that Microsoft Certified Trainers are authorized to delivery content in the subjects they hold certifications for. A MCT that is certified in Microsoft Azure Administration can delivery content in this product. However, the same MCT can not provide content delivery in say Microsoft Power BI Data Analytics if they do not hold this certification. The reason for this is simple. Microsoft requires MCT’s to know the subjects they teach. This is a hard rule for Microsoft Learning Partners. Providers that are not in Microsoft Partnerships, and use courseware that is not (MOC) content can and will have Microsoft Certified Trainers deliver content they may not be certified to deliver.

We will leave the above for a different time. The critical thing for you to be aware of if you are considering MCT certification, err on the side of caution and only deliver content that you are certified to deliver. Having a clear understanding of the rules helps you get the pay you desire. Not all courses and or providers pay the same. We see a huge up tick in demand for Azure skills. This translates to more pay and opportunity for you as a MCT. The same holds true for training providers. Many will low ball a new MCT for $60k-$70k while others have no issue paying $150k and above.

Microsoft Certified Trainers have considerable leverage in the current tech environment. Here are a few:

  1. Their Daily Rate.
  2. Which courses they wish to deliver.
  3. What their schedule looks like.
  4. What providers they will work with.

Why is this you ask? The next time you hear or see an ad about Microsoft Certification Training. The focus will be centered around the fact the provider has MCT’s to deliver content. There are 30k-40k MCT’s worldwide. That is a small number compared to other other Microsoft Certifications. There are well over 5M MCP’s and I would guess that number is closer to 15M. There is 3.1M & 3.5M Data and Cybersecurity job opening globally. You get my point by now.

If you are considering MCT Certification we have included a deeper dive into the steps to become a MCT below: Please Note: Due to recent changes to the MCT Program, Microsoft will no longer accept the Microsoft Office Specialist Certification (MOS) for NEW MCT Candidates.
